No damage after Irma

Good news about Mary Rose:

"Irma" at it's full strength missed Antigua and also upcoming "Jose" will pass by a little north.

Nevertheless others have not been that lucky. For example Barbuda which is just around the corner suffers from huge environmental and infrastructural damage done by Irma :-(

Mary Rose in the local news

While we had a lot of fun today at the dinghy race, the local "Observer" newspaper had Mary Rose on it's front page!

Below you find one shot from the ceremony yesterday evening.

So, that was it! The Antigua Classics 2017 are history - we had a lot of fun, big challanges, great and exiting sailing conditions.

Stay tuned for great shots done by Mandi from SY Skye on the chasing boat which was a tough job in those rocky conditions.

Last race & second place

After 3 hours and 20 minutes on sea racing a distance of 50 kilometers we missed first place for just about 3 minutes and got second.

After all with 2 wins, one second place and the first race missed due the front mast damage, Mary Rose & crew got  2nd over all in vintage class A!

2nd race done and again winning!

Today it was the classic cannon course layout.
We had 2 to 3 meter waves and strong wind and did it again!

First in class & first of fleet today!

Let's see what can be done tomorrow at the last race. Currently Mary Rose is already second in points of vintage class B (over all)!

Repairs going fine

Around one hour to go and the mast will be lifted and re-fitted.

After that, Mary Rose's crew will have some hours of work upcoming with fitting all booms, shrouds, ropes and installing the sails.

As repairs are progressing and our chances to join the regatta tomorrow are not too bad, others didn't have much luck on this first racing day:

...Damage like this means game over for this event.

Drawback before first race day

On Thursday, one day before the first race leg, we where out with Mary Rose.

Wind was decent, the swell calm but after putting up the fisherman (5th sail between main and secondary mast) the 91 year old metal foundation for the front mast collapsed down within the ships hull.

Our Friend Ferdinand (Ferdinand Marshall Karl) is already on site to take care if all the preparations and refurbishments are going fine.

With 5 months to go, Mary Rose will be again in top condition and hopefully very fast!
